And while his solo performance was a massive success, Harry managed to almost cause a huge emergency backstage in the moments following the show.

After singing his heart out for the live audience, the singer went backstage to change and accidentally flung his shirt on a candle and witnessed it go up in flames.

In an attempt to stop the fire spreading, Harry began stamping out the flames – but his sock ended up catching alight instead.

A source recalled the frightening ordeal, and said: "Harry nearly burned the place down."

They added: "After his performance he went back to his dressing room and ripped off his shirt and threw it in the corner of the room.

"A few minutes later his manager asked if he could smell burning – he’d thrown it onto a candle and the whole sleeve had set alight.

"He tried to stamp it out but then his sock caught on fire."

The insider added to The Sun: "Luckily, the whole team got involved and managed to stamp the flames out, but it was one step away from needing a fire extinguisher."

Before the 23 year old’s appearance in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza last weekend, it was reported that the singer was a "nervous wreck" due to the performance being live and not pre-recorded.

At the time, a source told Hollywood Life: "Harry is having the same feelings he had when he started on The X Factor.
