The Walking Dead stuntman John Bernecker dies aged 33 from serious head injury following 20 foot horror fall onto concrete floor while on set
John Bernecker passed away after a horrific accident on the set of the hit zombie show in Georgia on Wednesday July 12.
TMZ reports that he died surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday July 14.
The coroner for the Coweta County Coroner’s Office, Richard Hawk, said the the cause of his death was blunt force trauma.
John is said to have sustained a serious head injury from the shocking fall.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he was treated at the intensive care unit at Atlanta Medical Centre.
AMC released a statement following the incident. It read: "We are saddened to report that John Bernecker suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set.
"He was immediately transported to an hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers."
His girlfriend, Jennifer Cocker, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday: "John deserves to be seen by every neorusurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us... THIS ISNT FAIR."
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union, who John was a member of, said they are investigating what happened.
"We have been informed of a serious injury to a SAG-AFTRA member on the set of The Walking Dead and are investigating the situation," the spokesperson said in the statement.
